Jeep JK 3.6L Upper Intake Manifold Torque Sequence

Fast Answer: 3.6L Upper Plenum Torque

89 INCH-lbs (10 Nยทm)

Socket Size: 8mm | Sequence: Center Outward

Whether you are replacing spark plugs or tackling the infamous oil filter housing leak, removing the upper intake manifold (plenum) on the Jeep Wrangler JK 3.6L Pentastar is unavoidable. Because the manifold is made of composite plastic, strict adherence to the factory torque sequence is mandatory to prevent vacuum leaks or cracking.

Inch-Pounds vs Foot-Pounds

The specs are in INCH-pounds. If you accidentally set a standard 1/2″ drive torque wrench to 89 foot-pounds, you will instantly snap the bolts in the cylinder head and destroy the plastic manifold. Always use a dedicated 1/4″ drive inch-pound wrench.

The Tightening Sequence

Do not tighten one side down completely. Always hand-thread all bolts first to ensure the gaskets are seated properly. Then, tighten in a criss-cross “star” pattern starting from the center and working your way out to the edges.

*Repeat the sequence twice to ensure all bolts are seated at exactly 89 in-lbs, as outer bolts can loosen inner bolts during compression.
